Campervan booked for TV and film mixed reality studio
Basil Bus was fortunate enough to be booked for a very exciting adventure ar the ARRI mixed reality studios in west London last week, for a trip to the mountains!
Basil the campervan took a trip around the world, whilst set up in the incredible mixed reality studio at ARRI, London!
We have taken part in many filming gigs in our time, with our Campervan hire for TV and film services. Our campervans have featured in TV commercials, music videos, fashion magazines and online adverts. We have worked at indoor studios and outdoor film sets – but nothing quite prepared us for the adveture in store for Basil the campervan, when he made an appearance at the ARRI mixed reality studio in west London.
Set up on skates (yes, we often pop them on skates to manoever around in tight / indoor spaces), Basil the VW Camper visited the mountains, forests and city… all in one day! Read on to find out how….
The setting – what a studio!
This ARRI studio is like nothing we have ever seen before – A kit-laden, futuristic setting. The campervan was on a stage, surrounded by a curved curtain of panels. There was a further panel on the roof – and lighting and kit in abundance.
We understand that this is a new, state-of-the-art, LED volume stage created in collaboration with Creative Technology.

Campervan Hire for a London Promotional Event: A New Studio with a Difference
The promotional event that our campervan attended was a very exciting one, being for the opening of film equipment manufacturer ARRI’s new state of the art LED volume stage in west London, and showcasing our Campervan hire for TV and film services.
Located at ARRI’s UK premises in Uxbridge, the studio includes a main ‘in vision’ curved screen and two side screens, making it one of the largest mixed reality studios in Europe.
The studio is available for hire for long and short form productions of TV and film, as well as events of many kinds – and lends itself perfectly for access to large filming props, such as a classic campervan! (Not that we are biased or anything!).
We wanted to say a massive thank you to ARRI for inviting us (and Basil the classic VW Camper) to be involved in such a fantastic promotional event. We had a great time!
Keep reading to find out how our classic camper, Basil, got on when he was hired for the opening, and how we were able to help in bringing the studio to life.
Basil Bus – A Classic Campervan for Hire in London
Basil is a sage green and cream classic 1979 VW camper, and can fit up to five passengers, making him perfect for all sorts of promotional events and projects.
As one of our prized classic campers, Basil has been hired for a whole range of projects, from starring roles in the music industry to promoting charitable events, alongside other work as a wedding car and many other events in the London, Sussex, Kent and Surrey area
Some of his most notable appearances include working for Sony Music at a London based event where Ed Sheeran gave a private performance and working to promote ‘World Ocean Day’, where we dressed him up with an ocean theme.
He was also hired as one of the stars for the music video for Kuda’s ‘Bullet train’, who was subsequently promoted by hip hop icon Ne Yo after he saw the video.

What a Day it Was!
The day itself was an amazing one, and an exciting opportunity to add to Basil the campervan’s already vast experience in promotional events, hospitality and the TV and filming sector: adding another feather to his cap.
He had also recently had a makeover, including a polish and a new engine, and so was primed and ready for the job at hand.
The day started with him being picked up by one of our lovely drivers at Buttercup Bus HQ in Croydon, and then being whisked away to ARRI’s new London studio, where he was then driven in and left with the photographers and crew.
He was then prepped for the day, with skates being attached to him so he could be moved around to best capture and showcase the large format, digital screens in the background.
Basil the campervan was then magically transported to all sorts of different locations, from the streets of London to mountain ranges, then to Hong Kong and more, with this all being possible through the amazing LED volume at the studio (a concept that could be perhaps compared with green screen technology).
Whilst Basil the campervan was busy being filmed, we stayed in close contact with ARRI to make sure all was running smoothly and that he was OK, and after he was done and some amazing photos had been taken, he was picked up and taken back to the Buttercup Bus Vintage Campers HQ. A very good day indeed!
