So how much do we all really know about the Isle of Wight? For us the Isle of Wight is a great destination spot for our lovely VW camper hirers where they always return with beaming faces and awesome British sun tans!

We wanted to break down the myths of visiting this great island of ours which according to google maps is a mere 88 miles away from our Croydon base to Southampton. That’s right friends Southampton is where it’s at or indeed check out the ferry on http://www.wightlink.co.uk/ where you need to pop across the small bit of ocean to Cowes, Isle of Wight.

Now you’ve arrived in Cowes. The campervan is raring to go on a little drive around the island. Which way do you and the family go? Well if you’re on a late afternoon ferry staying in the island’s capitol is a good shout. Cowes is so cute! I’ve had a cracking portion of fish ‘n’ chips there, walking along the old cobbled streets passing many a shop and atmospheric pubs! Although do watch the time of year you visit as I can imagine all the campsites etc will be rammed come 21st June 2014 for Cowes Week.

Yes we’ve arrived. Let’s head east and start this vw camper self drive hire adventure! Look out the campers window and wave to nearby England if you’re lucky to have a lovely sunny day. Stop off at one of the many award winning beaches for a fun filled picnic. If it’s windy, no worries just use the campervan as a windbreak or better still huddle up and put the kettle on for a warming cuppa! Stretch those legs and go for a wander, you may even spot some prehistoric fossils in the ground with the Isle of Wight being known as a hot spot for these findings in the whole of Europe. If you’re dedicated carve one out and pack it in the boot…there’s plenty of space to be had in a campervan did you know!

Okay, there’s perhaps a little bickering coming from the back seats…. need to tire the kids out? Have no fear if you didn’t pack the running machine. Keep the kids entertained with activities including the Isle of Wight Zoo, Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens or park your campervan up and travel via the steam railway.

Save a few pennies and check out this awesome site http://www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/things-to-do/ for lots more information and some worthy island discounts. As Tesco would say every little helps and with those pennies you save you can buy a few more beers to enjoy whilst chilling in the campsite. Priceless moments like these is the perfect way you can truly kick back and relax on your vw campervan self drive hire holiday.

Now, time for bed. Where shall we park up our camper? Indeed. We have friends on the island and would love you to check out a previous blog post.
